On the face of it, many people think this type of set-up is a great idea - giving Guinea Pigs access to grass whenever they like. However, there are several serious problems:
1) They are not predator-proof, a fox could dig under in a few minutes.
2) The majority of the space is not weatherproof, and the “sleeping compartment” tends to be very small. So if it’s cold or pouring with rain, the piggies will be confined to a very small space - or they might choose to go out in the rain (they don’t always make the best decisions!)
3) They can easily be toppled by the wind.
4) The ramps are often far too steep for safety.
