For some reason, there’s a widespread perception that small animals are only for children. So many times when I mention I have Guinea Pigs, people reply “Oh, for your kids?”
I meet lots of people who say they love Guinea Pigs because they have fond memories of keeping them as children. If you love them, there is nothing stopping you keeping them for yourself! Do we reach a certain age and stop being able to appreciate small creatures?
There are so many reasons why Guinea Pigs make excellent pets for adults:
Having pets, looking after them and stroking them are proven to reduce stress and anxiety
As long as they have a plentiful supply of fresh water and hay, and the company of their own kind, they’ll be fine if you work all day
They’re much cheaper to be looked after while you are away, compared to larger animals such as dogs or cats
They don’t need walking!
