6 Questions Everybody Asks...

Some of the most common questions I get from people who are thinking about adopting Guinea Pigs for the first time:

Are Guinea Pigs Noisy?

They make a variety of noises, but the "wheek" sound we all know is usually their way of communicating with humans rather than each other. So they shouldn't be too noisy at night or when you're not around

Are Guinea Pigs Expensive to Keep?

They can be surprisingly costly. Ongoing costs include bedding, hay, pellets and fresh vegetables. Of course, there are ways to economise without compromising on care. Vet's bills are a major expense you need to be prepared for.

Do Guinea Pigs Bite?

It's very rare for a Guinea Pig to bite a human, they tend to be "flight" rather than "fight" animals! However, the tip of their nose is a blind spot, so if you poke your fingers near their mouth they might have a curious nibble!

Do Guinea Pigs Fight?

It can happen, but not as much as you might think, and it's not just male Piggies! Just like humans, personalities can clash. Having plenty of space reduces the risk of fighting. Consider choosing an already-bonded pair from a rescue.

Are Guinea Pigs Messy?

Yes! They do 100 poos a day and they aren't fussy where they do them. They spread hay everywhere, they tip over bowls and they chew on things. This is all natural behaviour, embrace the mess! Those perfect setups you see on Instagram never last more than 5 minutes!

Are Guinea Pigs Smelly?

Like all animals, a Guinea Pig's environment will start to smell if not cleaned regularly. With good hygiene, you'll hardly notice a smell. Good ventilation also helps.
